History & Mission Statement
|
The German School of Ann Arbor (DSAA) was founded in 2008 by a group of dedicated parents with only nine students. Yvonne Stevens, principal and co-founder of the DSAA, remembers that in 2007 she could not find appropriate German classes for her school-aged children, and so the idea of founding a German school was born. The market research regarding the German speaking population in the area, done before the founding of the school, would prove to be correct. The number of students attending German classes at the DSAA has grown to approximately 150, at present.

The classes are based on the curriculum of the state of Baden-Württemberg as well as on the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)". The lessons are taught in small classroom settings with an average of eight students, and take place on Saturdays at "Logan Elementary School" in Ann Arbor. The small class size allows teachers to meet the individual needs of the students and tailor lessons accordingly.
The German School of Ann Arbor aims to promote in its students the knowledge of the German language with the help of traditional methods as well as extracurricular activities. Teaching the language is only one of the school’s goals. In addition, we seek to introduce students to the cultural heritage of German-speaking countries and their role in the global economy. With our many celebrations and extracurricular activities, the German School Ann Arbor offers a colorful potpourri of exciting events so that students can learn about and experience a bit of German culture together.
