The German School of Ann Arbor employs roughly twenty teachers, most of whom have the German language as a mother tongue and Germany, Austria or Switzerland as their country of origin. It is our goal to support the German language skills of each student in the best possible way to ensure each student reaches their full potential. Our small class sizes, of approximately eight students each, allows teachers to meet the individual needs of the students and tailor lessons accordingly. Our teachers are highly motivated and passionate about developing engaging lessons. In addition to grammar, our students also get to know German traditions and customs and therefore gain a real understanding of German culture. With our many celebrations and extracurricular activities such as Mardi Gras/Carnival, St. Martin’s Day and St. Nicholas Day events, we deepen our students’ understanding and experience with German culture.
Regular teacher conferences and teacher training courses support cooperation and exchange among teachers. Classroom visits by experienced mentors provide helpful reflection and guidance to aid our teachers’ professional development. Parent-teacher meetings normally take place once a year, or as required. Parents can contact their child's teacher anytime to discuss their student’s performance.
