Parent Participation Program & Parent Council

Parent Participation Program

The goal of this program is to encourage all DSAA families to actively participate in our school activities.
Through this program, our school can offer a more diverse range of services while keeping tuition fees low.
Your talents, commitment, and time are appreciated by both students and teachers alike.

How Does the Program Work?
  • Our school offers a variety of tasks/jobs for different interests and skills.
  • When signing up your student in Sycamore, each household is asked to select three jobs in the order of personal preference, with each household required to perform only one job per school year.
  • We try our best to assign you to your chosen job preference, but at the same time we have to make sure all positions are filled to maintain the quality of our program.
  • We hope that as many families as possible can participate in this program. However, we understand that participating may not be feasible for all families, and we therefore offer the alternative of a “Non-Participation Fee” ($150 per family).

Not All Jobs Are the Same
The jobs in the Parent Participation Program differ in their time commitment and requirements. The program is
designed to allow parents to choose tasks according to their time availability, interests, and talents. Some jobs
require more time or need to be done during school hours, while others can be done conveniently from home.

Job Assignment
Your job assignment is typically communicated via email at the beginning of the school year. However, some
tasks are assigned later in the school year. Please always confirm that you can take on the task. If there is a
scheduling conflict, please notify us immediately so that we can find an alternative solution in time.
We ask that the assigned jobs be carried out by parents or close family members who regularly bring your
children to school (no babysitters or other representatives). This approach ensures a high level of responsibility,
personal connection, and continuity in our school’s operations.

Parent Council
The Parent Council (called "Elternbeirat" in German) shall support the educational experience of the students of DSAA. It shall facilitate and enhance communication within the parent community, between parents, the faculty and the administration of DSAA and shall facilitate parent involvement in social, educational, and fundraising activities.

Membership shall be automatically granted to any parent, guardian, or other adult standing in loco parentis for a student at DSAA (hereinafter referred to as Parent Representatives). Also allowed are faculty representatives of the DSAA.

The General Meetings shall be conducted in the English language in order for all parent representatives at DSAA who may not speak German to be able to contribute and understand meeting content. Meetings shall be held throughout the year, or at the discretion of the Executive Board and/or the Head of School. The Chairperson shall notify the members and provide an Agenda at least 5 days prior to the meeting.
